For a transportation management center (TMC), the annual operations and management (O&M) costs can range from $50,000 to $1.8 million for the TMC physical plant and from $55,000 to $1.3 million for TMC personnel.
The annual operations and maintenance costs for a TMC include physical plant expenses and utilities, as well as salaries and benefits of the personnel. Although many agencies own the TMC building, building rental is used as the basis for analysis because rental cost is easier to understand than the amortization of a building as an asset.
Tables 6-1 through 6-4 in the source report provide detailed cost estimates for four types of TMCs, a summary of which is presented below. Estimates are for the stand-alone operations and do not include cross-jurisdictional operations. All costs are adjusted for the current year of analysis (2002).
Type of TMC
Number of Personnel
Annual Physical Plant Operations Costs ($)
Annual Personnel Operations Costs ($)
The costs of operating a transportation management center (TMC) depend on the size and complexity of building, functionality supported, and staffing needed. Annual O&M costs can range from $50,000 to $1.8 million for the TMC physical plant operations and $55,000 to $1.3 million for personnel.
